Along Ruta 1 it is possible to discover the history and culture of Baja California Sur when visitors visit its cities and emblematic villages, its museums, art galleries amongst many other attractions. 

San José del Cabo offers travelers the opportunity to visit the Art District and its Historic Downtown, San Jose del Cabo mission and the pier to mention some. 

In La Paz, it is possible to visit the Popular Arts and Cultures Center, the History and Anthropology Regional Museum, the Whale and Sciences of the Sea Museum, amongst others.  Visitors can also stroll along the pier or sit at one of the many restaurants and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets.

Todos Santos  is home for the Néstor Agúndez Martínez Cultural Center located inside an old school.  Todos Santos also has a local museum and it is well known for its art galleries and artist community.

The evangelization and colonization of the Baja and Alta California started in Loreto. Here visitors will find the Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto,  the first mission in Baja California founded in 1697, and right beside it, it is the Jesuit Missions Museum. Visitors will be able to taste one of the most typical dishes in Baja California, almejas tatemadas (burned clams) (link a gastronomía), and the missionary wine, olives and goat cheese.

Santa Rosalía, the main city of the Mulege municipality, stands out for its French legacy result of the French mining company “The Boleo” started running operations in 1885. It is possible to visit the Santa Barbara church, designed by Gustav Eiffel, History of Mining Museum, and the Santa Rosalia Mission, amongst others.
