LA PAZ

La Paz, is the capital city of Baja California Sur and an ideal destination to do many activities like swimming with whale sharks, tours in and around the famous Espiritu Santo island, and home to spectacular beaches, like Balandra beach.

It is an important stop on Ruta 1 not only for its tourist attractions and natural beauty, but also as a place to rest and stock up before continuing the adventure through Ruta 1.

The pier of La Paz is a 5km walkway by the sea, decorated with beautiful sculptures of marine wildlife that lives in this area.  Along the pier there is a varied selection of restaurants that serve delicious unique and local dishes; lively bars, shops, museums, and more.  It is possible to stroll, ride a bicycle, or skate along the pier, enjoying the ambiance, the nice views and stunning sunsets. 

La Paz also offers a nice exhibit of urban art produced by local and international artists who intervene walls creating colorful murals showing the city´s history and identity. 

Nearby La Paz, there are a number of beaches to enjoy the Sea of Cortes. Amongst the most popular beaches there is Balandra and El Tecolote.

Located south of the scenic road of La Paz, Balandra beach is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, being an ideal destination for visitors looking for relaxation, tranquility and natural beauty.

El Tecolote beach, located at the northeastern tip of La Paz bay, has a calm swell that allows visitor to engage in different activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, to mention some.  Just in front of this beautiful beach one can see the Espiritu Santo island- Natural Protected Area, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO- famous for its natural wealth and where it is possible to snorkel and scuba dive with sea lions, do kayaking around the island or camp under the stars.

La Paz has its own La Paz International Airport that offers easy access to visitors.
