San Ignacio has a colonial mission and it is the ideal place for camping, glamping, and grey whale watching in the San Ignacio Lagoon.

The village of San Ignacio is located on Ruta 1, 150 kms south of Guerrero Negro.  San Ignacio is the ideal place to start your expedition to visit the cave paintings in the San Francisco Sierra.

In this village one can visit the San Ignacio mission that the Jesuit monks, lead by Friar Juan Bautista Luyando, built in 1728.  One can still appreciate the stone carved façade, as well as the altarpiece dedicated to San Ignacio de Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order.

In the Cave Paintings Museum of San Ignacio ,in the San Ignacio mission, known as El Teatro, it is possible to learn more about the cave paintings of the region as well as the date the first settlers lived in the area.  The museum has a partial recreation of a cave and displays showing the every day life activities performed by the ancient inhabitants.

The San Ignacio Lagoon is located 55 kms away from the village of San Ignacio and it is possible to do several activities like kayaking, scuba diving, camping and glamping, among others.  Between the months of February and March the lagoon becomes a sanctuary for the grey whale making it ideal for visitors to have close encounters with this majestic mammals.

The nearest airport is the Loreto International Airport.
